Second generation Core i laptops getting cheaper 28/07/2012, 01:52:28 PM (GMT+7)

(VietNamNet Bridge)-The laptops using the processors of the previous generations have become very cheap after Intel launched the latest generation of processor Core i3 onto the market.

High grade products have low price levels

Currently, with just 10 million dong, one would be able to buy the laptops running with the second generation Core I, while such a laptop was priced at 13-14 million dong last year.

In fact, the sharp falls of the laptop prices have been caused not only by the appearance of the next generation processor, but also by the sales promotion campaigns launched by retailers.

Laptop distributors have announced big price discounts for all of the products available on the market, targeting university and general school students, when the new academic year nears.

A retailer has revealed that the prices have been slashed to the levels which “could not be lower” to clear the big stocks at the storehouses of both retailers and importers due to the weak demand.

The retailer said that one can buy the laptops with strong configuration at the prices designed for low cost products.

Though Intel has introduced the third generation of Core i, the laptops using the first and second generation Core i are still considered high grade products thanks to their rapid processing speed and the high capability to satisfy the demand of users.

As an economic law, when the latest generation products hit the market, the prices of the products churned out before would be automatically considered as “out of fashion” and would see the prices decreasing rapidly.

Gateway NV47H12v/13v running with Core i3 2330M 2,2GHz, has been displayed on retailers’ shelf with the price of 8.9 million dong.

If one likes more famous brands, he can choose Asus series, such as X44H with Core i3 2310M 2.1Ghz which is priced at 9.2 million dong only. Besides, Lenovo G470 (i3 2330M) priced at 9.39 million dong, or Toshiba Pro C640 and Pro C640 with the same configuration and the same price at 9.49 million dong.

Those, who are faithful to Vaio brand of Sony, could choose SVE11115EG model with the processor AMD E2-1800 speed 1.76GHz which has the retail price of 9.9 million dong.

However, customers have been warned that if choosing this series, one would have to accept to use AMD processor. Especially, if troubles occur after the warranty period, it would be difficult to find new processors to replace the broken down ones.

Low cost products flooding the market

The market segment of popular products has been defined as the products priced at less than 10 million dong. There are about 60 models in the market segment introduced by 15 big computer brands worldwide including Dell, HP, Samsung, Acer, Lenovo, Gateway.

Those, who do not have the demand to do graphics or use other special features, can choose the models priced at around 7 million dong.

There are about 16 models now available on the market which have the price level. Of course, the models have the processors with slower speeds than Core i, such as Celeron hay Pentium.

These products may not satisfy some clients because of the slow processing speed. However, experts have affirmed that they would be okay for the simple operations, such as typing, listening to music or watching films.

Acer Aspire 4349 with Celeron B815 1.66Ghz priced at 6.9 million dong, or Acer Aspire (Celeron B960, 2,2GHz) at roughly 7 million dong could also be the reasonable choices

Netbooks have disappeared from the market. The only advantage of the models is the small screen which is portable. However, as there are too many disadvantages, consumers have turned their backs on them
